Foster Brothers was founded in 1878 in Fulton, NY. The 1138 is a versatile, full sized cleaver weighing in at almost 2lbs. The wood scales are original and look to be two different types of wood on either side. The scales are stable and without play. The carbon steel blade is stout and has been sharpened. The pictured cleaver was made between 1920-1940. Carbon steel will rust if neglected. Be sure to hand wash and thoroughly dry carbon steel knives after use.
